Dr. Ruma Simhan, Past President of the NC Dental Society Foundation shares the Foundation's disaster relief efforts supporting Western NC in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

The North Carolina Dental Society Foundation is continuing its relief efforts to support western North Carolina communities devastated by Hurricane Helene.

The Foundation has organized several initiatives to provide immediate assistance, including the Western NC Dental Supply Drive, which collected and distributed 25,000 oral care supplies to those in need.

Additionally, the NC Dental Society Relief Fund for Dentists has awarded nearly 30 relief grants, totaling more than $110,000 to help dentists rebuild their practices and resume providing vital care to residents.

“Our mission is to help those in need, and during times like this, it’s critical that we come together as a community,” said Dr. Ruma Simhan, immediate past-president of the NCDSF. “Many residents have lost access to health care, including dental services. Through our coordinated efforts, we are working to provide immediate relief while supporting long-term recovery and the restoration of oral health care in the region.”

The Foundation has also launched a fundraising campaign to support continued recovery, including funding dental care services, supply distribution, and rebuilding efforts for local dental practices.

“We are incredibly grateful for the volunteers, donors, and supporters who have stepped up to help,” Dr. Simhan added. “We encourage everyone to contribute in any way they can to help communities rebuild.”

The North Carolina Dental Society Foundation has a long history of supporting communities in need, focusing on improving oral health access, education, and disaster relief efforts.
